🪞 Leadership Begins With How We Show Up — Not Just What We Do
I came across a powerful quote from Dr. Sue Johnson that stopped me in my tracks:
“It’s much harder to see the impact of my responses on you.”
That line has been echoing through my own leadership journey — at work and in my personal relationships. It’s a reminder that while I can easily justify my intentions, it takes intention, humility, and self-reflection to understand how my impact lands on others.
In leadership, integrity isn’t just about doing the right thing; it’s also about being willing to pause and ask:
• How did my response make this person feel?
• Did I create safety or tension?
• Did I lead with curiosity or assumption?
• Did I make space for their voice, or did I unintentionally silence it?
This kind of reflection isn’t always comfortable. But it’s essential. Because real leadership — the kind that builds trust, inspires action, and strengthens relationships — grows in the space between our intention and our impact.
I’m learning to slow down.
To listen more closely.
To check in, not check out.
To own my blind spots with grace.
And most importantly, to recognize that my responses can either build connection or erode it — at work, at home, and in every relationship in between. If we want to lead with integrity, we have to be brave enough to look in the mirror and ask: What is the impact of how I show up?
